Enrichment Schedule Clarification

The enrichments are operating on the following general schedule from 4:30-5:15:

Physical Enrichment:  Monday and Wednesday, gym.
Lego Robotics:  Wednesday and Thursday, room 1149.
Test prep./College planning:  Monday and Tuesday OR Thursday and Friday, library.
Movie club:  various days, room 1104 AKA The Lounge.

*Remember, participants must attend academic time from 3:30-4:30 in order to take part in enrichments.

Lounge will be closed on December 21

Since our movie club is currently watching Harry Potter, I'll say "Happy" Christmas instead of "Merry" and let you know that the 21CCLC lounge will be closed on Wednesday, December 21 (the last day of school before Christmas/holiday/winter break).  We are planning on enjoying a few treats on Tuesday the 20th so feel free to bring something to share if you like.  The enrichments are continuing on the same schedule as last month, so jump in and participate in whichever one you'd like!

Return of the Nooks

Unfortunately, Turkey Day and Mr. Eck's birthday are now behind us. But there is some good news: the NOOKS have returned to the 21st CCLC Lounge, complete with updates. We are working away at credit recovery, with many students nearing completion of their courses. A movie club has begun, which at this point consists of a list of movies we want to watch written on the board! So we'll dive into December, and maybe a sledding club? :)

Vacation Pics

Our final stop on the way back to Idaho was the Golden Spike National Monument, which marks the place where the transcontinental railroad was finally completed.

We spent three days visiting my grandparents near St. George. We visited parks, the historic Brigham Young home and St. George temple, went swimming, at at In-N-Out Burger, and more.

This arch in Bryce Canyon National Park is called "Natural Bridge."

At elevations as high as over 9,000 feet, the views of Bryce Canyon were truly amazing.

Our first stop was Temple Square in Salt Lake City. We made it all the way there from Caldwell with only one stop!

The Ecks fly south!

Today will be Mr. Eck's last day in the 21CCLC Lounge for about a week as the Eck family is going on vacation! We will be visiting the exciting sites of Bryce Canyon National Park, Las Vegas, Temple Square, and St. George. We will hopefully be able to find a really easy hike to do in Bryce Canyon (we need it to be easy as we'll have a 3- and 1-year-old with us:) Then we'll stay a few days with family near St. George, and take a trip to Las Vegas to visit more family and see the sights. We hear there is a pretty cool M&M's store where everything is made of chocolate! And we are planning to visit historic temple square in Salt Lake City, as well as a zoo or two (our girls love zoos)! Needless to say, we are very excited to embark on this adventure. Of course I will miss the lounge, but we will bring back some pictures to share. Some of my most memorable experiences as a child were family vacations and I hope to provide the same memories for my girls (even if some of them end up being Griswold-style!) Adios for now; a report on the trip will follow soon!

Fast & Furious

OK not furious, but fast yes! We are now in our second week of operation and lots of participants are well on their way to completing some of their make-up credits. And on top of that, we also have some pretty good pool players! The bean bag chairs are officially broken in and we are enjoying our space in the lounge. The participants are wolfing down their snacks, playing hard, then working hard each day. We are looking forward to having Mrs. Thornton on board soon to help with credit recovery, as well as some additional enrichment opportunities coming up in November. Stay tuned!

Week 1

We are off to a fantastic start at the MHS 21CCLC Lounge. We have room for more participants, and those who have been here this first week are already honing their skills at the pool table and getting well into their work on make-up credits!

Meet Mr. Eck

Hello! My name is Mr. Eck (AKA Senor Eck if you have Spanish 1 with me). This is my first year at Middleton High and I truly love the school, staff, and students. A little about me...I grew up in Meridian and graduated from Meridian High. I earned my degree in Spanish education at BYU-Idaho. I met my wife Lisa at college and we have 2 beautiful daughters: Hallie (3) and Brenna (1). Some of my favorite activities are spending time with my family and eating--my favorite foods include lasagna, most desserts, pizza, pozole, tamales, and pretty much all Mexican food except orejas de puerco and menudo! I love learning and teaching and look forward to having fun in the 21CCLC this year!

21st Century Lounge set to open OCT 3rd

Hello MHS!

We have been working furiously for the last month and the 21st Century Student Lounge is almost set to open. Our first day of service will be Oct. 3rd. Some of you may know our Site Facilitator, Mr. Eck from Spanish class so feel free to say hello.

For those of you waiting for Credit Recovery, we will be set-up to start those operations as well, as long as you have submitted an application(available at; Main Office, Counseling Office, or here) that included the courses required. If you are interested in our credit recovery option please visit with your counselor about your specific situation before arriving to the Lounge. On your first day you will be completing a progress agreement, which will outline our expectations for your attendance so please take this seriously.

Otherwise, we are excited to establish services at the High School and we look forward to a fun year. If you have questions or concerns about the lounge you can contact the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Director, Ian Norland at inorland@msd134.org or the 21st Century Lounge Site Facilitator, Kamron Eck at keck@msd134.org

See you next week,

Ian
